EU to legislate that new cars must contain 25% recycled plastic

In order to improve the recyclability of automobiles, the European Commission released a regulatory proposal on End of Life Vehicles (ELVs) on July 13th. The proposal stipulates that plastic used for manufacturing new cars must contain 25% recycled plastic, of which 25% must come from scrapped vehicles. 30% of plastic in scrapped vehicles should be recycled.

The European Union has stated that it will cover new categories such as motorcycles, trucks, and buses in the future. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 12.3 million tons annually and improve the price of 5.4 million tons of materials by 2035.
